Named after the famous Kullu Valley, or the Valley of Gods, located in the state of Himachal Pradesh the Kullu shawls are considered as one of the finest quality woolens equivalent to that of Turkistan, known for its reversible technique in which the Same color and patterns are depicted in both sides.

Empress Mumtaz Mahal, the consort of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan is credited for the discovery of the art of wool weaving in Kullu in the 17th century.
